Video Editor's Toolkit

You're in charge of putting together the  "Best Games from GMTK Jam 2023" video! Watch out though, because the video editing software is misbehaving a bit today... it may get a bit puzzly!

This game downloads images and names of random actual games in GMTK Game Jam 2023!

Explanation of mechanics:

  • After you've loaded in the videos, you can press Play at any time to see how your video is coming along. Once it has played through to the end, you'll be able to see which criteria you've completed and which still need to be done.

  • The playhead shoots a laser below it as it moves. The clip the laser hits is what will appear in the video.

  • You can't resize the clips (what is up with this software??) so make sure you arrange everything in a way that the playhead will be able to see it.

  • Due to the glitchy editing software, some clips also have some annoying behaviors, which are explained in the lower-right of the screen. You'll have to figure out how to work around these!

Update 12 hours after the jam submission deadline: It's been brought to our attention that on the jam information page, under the "What you can make" section, there is a rule "Please don’t make games about or based on Mark Brown, the GMTK brand, or any Jam mods - it’s easy for parody and inside jokes to go wrong." We weren't aware of this rule when making the game. Sorry about that. We don't mean any offense to Mark or GMTK. And also we totally understand if our game is disqualified. We've also changed the game's cover image to remove the picture of Mark and the "VETK" logo.

I've included The Video Editor's Toolkit at 32:30 in a video covering the GMTK Game Jam.

(+2)

i love that you have real entries to the game jam in your game

(+2)

would be so cool if there were more levels and mechanics :) loved this game

Cute and enjoyable! I hope to see similar gameplay again. Enjoyed the music as well

Saw your update. It's a shame it may be disqualified. Understandable, but unfortunate

(+3)

how did you get real games to show up?? that was amazing, its a shame voting has ended :(

(+4)

I hope this will be the real wrap up video. Awesome idea. love it 5/5♥

(+5)

i was not expecting it to actually be able to render! every other free video editor I've downloaded always manages to crash there.

this is the true experience of having a youtuber's computer

Very clever and entertaining, great job!

this really made me feel like mark brown

(+1)

i know man

(+2)

It gave me the exaggerated swagger of a successful video gaming YouTuber

Awesome game, loved the puzzle element you got going on here!

(+5)

I would never even imagined a puzzle game inside a video editing timeline and I completely loved. The fact you get ACTUAL JAM GAMES to compose it on a pseudo-video at the end is really great.

And I read your comment about the rules, and rules are rules, but I think your homage to GMTK, the jam and the jammers is really respectful, creative and fun <3

The satisfaction when you got it rolling!!

(+1)

Awesome game, very unique concept, but one thing to note down is that mark is surely using a very out dated video editor 😄

(+1)

Highly rewarding, you know your puzzles Pat!

(+1)

The puzzle design was so good! I really loved it. clever mechanic with locked levels and pushing stuff, LOVE the way you include other jam games! Not to mention the awesome music.

(+1)

Nice job!

(+1)

This is such a good entry! The puzzle design is well balanced and the tech of pulling other games is such a mind-blowing and creative inclusion. Makes me wonder what the probability of a developer seeing their own game would be 😆

Excellent job!

(+2)

ran the math, i think it's about a 0.144% chance per game, which makes it a 13.46% chance of seeing your own game after 100 restarts.

clever puzzle! i liked it :] also awesome audio work cameron!!!

Thanks so much, Avy!

I had a chance to playtest this game when it was at an earlier stage (about 10 hours ago). It was lots of fun then, and only got better now!

Such a great idea, love the use of the theme!

It made me want to try more games from the game jam, from seeing their images in this one.

And the ending actually made me laugh :D

Thanks for your help with the playtesting!
